We know the last itme there was a Houdini bust on the family monument it was detached and stolen. However, the Society of American Magicians (SAM)has an exact plastic replica which it uses for it's ceremonies. We also know that the Machpelah Cemetery Asso
iation is willing to make a new bust at its own expense if they can copy the SAM replica. We also know that the Officers of SAM have refused to allow the cemetery to commission the making of a copy so that the gravesite would return to it's original cond
tion. Why is it that SAM will not allow the bust to be copied even though it will not cost them anything? Who makes these decisions for SAM? Why is SAM preventing the public from seeing the Houdini gravesite restored back to the way it was for so many dec
des? If you have the answers, please let me know. If you doubt what I claim, call the cemetery at 718-366-5959. You should also know that the cemetery regraded the entire family plot more than five years ago. It is now level. They also cleaned all the mon
ments and stones. There are no stains or dark pollution to be seen now. The pictures on the net are not recent and do not depict the current conditions of the whole plot. The cemetery also reset all the ledger stones on top of all the graves so they are s
raight and level. There is no record of anyone paying the cemetery for this work and they should be commended for taking the responsibility when there are no surviving blood relatives. The cemetery records also show that SAM replaced two stone benches ori
inally erected by Houdini that were smashed into pieces by vandals. SAM collected money from members for this restoration and care of the plot each year. Unfortunately, SAM didn't replace the two broken small footstones of Houdini relatives also buried in
the plot that were also cracked at the same time. The police reports note that the cemetery has documented pictures of the vandalism that was never repaired. Do the members of SAM know that the Houdini plot is still in disarray and what, if anything, will
they do about it?

I remember, as a child, that the British "Blue Peter" children's TV program had a letter from Houdini, that wasn't to be opened until a specified date. This was sometime in the mid to late seventies I think. But I never found out what the letter told.

In 1991 I wrote a childrens book called The
Houdini Box. The book won the Texas Bluebonnet
award and the Rhode Island Children's book award.
It's about a boy named Victor who is obsessed by
Houdini, and tries to do all of his tricks, but of
course, cannot. He meets Houdini in a train
station and is invited to Houdini's house, but the
day he goes turns out to be Halloween, 1926...the
day Houdini died. Mrs. Houdini gives Victor a
small locked box, and the story continues from
there. Unfortunately the book is unavailable
right now, but I'm hoping it will someday be
available again. I had always been a big fan of
Houdini's and was thrilled to discover your
website while I was visiting a school in Texas
recently. Thanks for the opportunity to see and
hear so many fascinating details about Houdini. I
especially love hearing his voice, the voice of
Bess (thrilling!) and to see the film clips. I
wish your web site had been available in 1990 when
I was doing my research, it would have been much
easier! I did visit Houdini's grave to research a
drawing in my book, and I took many pictures. I
even went one year on Halloween and was present at
the ceremony held for Houdini with other magicians
and a Rabbi saying the Kaddish, the Jewish prayer
for the dead.

Your site is very interesting. I looked it up because I recently had the pleasure of framing several pieces (about 43 lots) of Houdini's own escape equipment ie;hand cuffs keys and shackles. I even got to try them on,including his stright jacket It was an
incredible experience because this stuff is a part of history. All the items I framed (and there were many) have been shipped down to california to be auctioned off. Their valued (I'm told) at about $150 000.00 for the collection. The man auctioning them
wned the Houdini museum in Niagara Falls Canada. Contrary to popular Belief, the collection was not all destroyed in the fire that burnt the museum several year ago. There is much more left of the collection which has not yet been included in the auction.
he owner is still deciding the fate of the famous man's treasures. I am told by the curator that celebrities such as David Copperfield have already asked to put a bid on some of the pieces, sight unseen but have been told to wait for the auction. It is ex
iting to know I have played a role in this and that my craftsmanship will be appreciated by many famous magicians and Houdini fans. I took great care in preserving the pieces as well as displaying them as beautifully as I could. How's that for a news bite

I didn't see this story on your site - I haven't the time today to view it all, and it is very impressive!
The story goes that Houdini told Bess that if there was life after death he would give her a sign after his death of course. Bess never revealed, that I am aware of, what the sign would be or if he did indeed produce it after death.
I will continue to look around your site.
